Reframing the Muse – Baytree Centre x Dulwich Picture Gallery

On March 27th we were excited to attend a private view of ‘Reframing the Muse’ at the renowned Dulwich Picture Gallery. It was the culmination of a collaboration between Baytree’s Into School girls and isolated elderly women from the surrounding area examining the representation of women in the gallery, in which only one piece is by a female artist. The partnership also provided the perfect opportunity for the Into School girls to explore their identity through photography and acquire new skills, including lighting and editing.

The final exhibition strategically placed in front of the gallery’s permanent collection was incredibly moving. As was witnessing young and old women see themselves portrayed as they have never been seen before. Each portrait showcasing not just the incredible strength and potential those featured but all womanhood.

Thank you to the Dulwich Picture Gallery, Women of the Year Foundation who funded the project and Baytree staff we’re incredibly grateful for all your hard work. Finally. Thank you to all the women and girls who took part, your commitment and creativity is an inspiration and we’re very proud of all of you.
