A Day in the Life of My Work Experience: Reception, Admin, and Creativity!

As a 15-year-old on my work experience placement at Baytree, I’ve had the chance to be part of the staff and volunteers. Helping Baytree and taking on such meaningful tasks has been especially exciting for me, as I’ve been involved in Baytree’s clubs and trips for years! My day was full of new challenges, learning opportunities, and creativity—all while getting to meet some amazing people. Here’s a look at how my day went:

Starting the Day at Reception

Working in reception with Carol was exciting. As the first point of contact for visitors, I was the first face people saw when they came in. This meant greeting staff, volunteers, women, and girls with a friendly smile, answering the door when they buzzed, and directing visitors to the right rooms.

Meeting new people was probably the most fun part of the day. I quickly realised how important it is to make a good first impression and be helpful. Even though I was just sitting at the desk, I felt proud every time someone walked in and I was able to assist them—whether it was giving a girl directions to her club or having a good conversation with a parent or one of the women attending Baytree.

Getting into Admin Tasks

After spending some time at reception, I moved on to admin tasks for Apiphanie and Rosanna. At first, it seemed like a lot of work—sorting folders online and making sure everything was in its place—but once I got into the task, it wasn’t too bad. Organising documents may not sound like the most exciting thing, but it gave me a sense of responsibility. I know this won’t be the last time I’ll be doing admin work in the future!

Creating Posters for the Girls and Women

One of the most enjoyable parts of the day was creating posters for upcoming events and announcements. This task allowed me to be creative, which I loved since I really enjoy art and design. I made sure the posters looked fun while keeping the information clear and easy to read. I felt proud knowing that my work would be displayed around Baytree for all the girls and women to see!
