Adult Service Breast Cancer Fundraiser and Awareness Day

On Thursday 23rd March 2017 the Adult Training team organised a fundraising event to raise money for the Somerset ward, a cancer unit at St Thomas’ hospital. Staff, volunteers and students worked tirelessly and with great enthusiasm to make this a most successful event. We are delighted to announce that £620 was raised and we want to thank everyone who supported this wonderful cause.
This was a marvellous opportunity for the ESOL students to take part in a community fundraising event and to raise awareness of breast cancer. The students rose to the occasion, showing great compassion and solidarity and recognising the crucial work that the doctors and nurses carry out on a daily basis at NHS hospitals. As a result some of the students also told us that they had attended a breast screening clinic following the fundraising event.
Finally, it was with great pleasure that we welcomed Dr Fabio Nicoli, from St Thomas’ to the Baytree Centre. He was very impressed with the work that Baytree does and he took the opportunity to meet with staff and students. In addition, he promised to organise a follow-up a visit with the nurses to talk about breast cancer awareness with the staff & students at Baytree.
In celebration of their achievement and as a token of gratitude for their efforts, the students who helped organise and run the event were awarded Volunteer certificates from the Adult Service team.
Thank you everyone!
