April 22nd 2024 marked Earth Day, an annual event held to raise awareness and support for environmental protection and conserving our planet’s natural resources. Due to a combination of political, social, and economic factors, women across the globe are more vulnerable to the impact of climate change.

Although it may feel like climate change is out of our hands, the smallest changes can have a huge impact. In light of this, we wanted to provide you with some fun and easy tips on how you can make city living more environmentally friendly and sustainable.

Finding ways to combat climate change is an integral and essential tool to help the Baytree Centre continue its mission of empowering and celebrating women across the globe

Five Fun and Easy Ways You Can Help:

1. Transportation: Where possible, opt for walking, cycling, or using public transportation. Now that the summer months are upon us, it is a good excuse to enjoy the sunny weather!

2. Upcycling workshops: reducing consumption doesn’t have to be boring! Meet up with friends whilst you channel your creativity to turn old or unused items into new, useful products.

3. Nature walk and clean up: take advantage of your city’s green areas and get outside. At the same time, maybe use this an opportunity to get a group together and do a clean up of the park, enjoying nature and giving back to the environment at the same time.

4. Support a local business: visit your areas local shops and businesses and buy from these instead. This could be a fun chance to spend some time with friends, family or loved ones.

5. Urban garden galore: you don’t need a garden to connect with nature. Growing your own herbs, vegetables, and flowers is not only rewarding and therapeutic, it can also help you reduce food miles and reconnect you with nature.
