This October the Baytree Centre had the pleasure of welcoming Campus XR, a software company that’s reimagining education through the power of virtual reality (VR) and artificial intelligence (AI). Campus XR is transforming the way students are learning by creating immersive and interactive experiences that spark curiosity and build confidence. Their innovative approach helps learners truly connect with what they’re studying, making lessons memorable and exciting.
Hands-On Learning: VR and AI
During their visit, the Campus XR team gave the girls the chance to experience both VR and AI first hand. For many of the girls, it was their first time trying virtual reality, and the excitement throughout the room was undeniable. They were fully engaged exploring new worlds, experimenting with technology and discovering just how fun learning can be.
“Hopefully they’ll take away a sense of excitement and enjoyment,” One Campus XR team member shared, “Many of them tried VR for the first time, and they were super excited and really engaged. We hope they can go back to their teachers and parents and say they experienced something different today and enjoyed it too.”
AI in Schools: A Rapidly Growing Trend
One striking trend is how quickly AI is becoming part of everyday teaching. In the UK, the use of generative AI among teachers rose from 31% in 2023 to 47.7% in 2024, reflecting a growing acceptance of AI tools in the classroom(literacytrust.org.uk). This rapid adoption shows that AI is not just a futuristic concept but already shaping how students learn. For young girls, early exposure to AI through experience and demonstrations is critical.
Introducing young girls to AI and VR is about more than learning new skills and tools, it’s about empowerment and opportunity. Technology is shaping nearly every industry, from healthcare and design to environmental science and education. When girls gain early exposure to these fields, they can picture themselves as innovators, creators and problem solvers rather than just consumers of technology.

“There’s a stigma in the world that girls shouldn’t go for STEM subjects,” they added, “They’re often not pushed into it as much as their male counterparts. What we’re trying to accomplish at Campus XR is to change that – to make sure girls feel encouraged and included in the future of tech.”

Building confidence in STEM subjects helps close the gender gap that still exists in science and tech careers, it also ensures that the technologies of the future are designed by diverse minds and perspectives, making them more inclusive and representative of the world we live in.
