Interested in data analytics? TrueCue are hosting a hackathon to encourage more women into tech

Into School

We’ve partnered with TrueCue who are running a Women in Data Hackathon as part of their campaign to provide information, advice and up-skilling opportunities for women and to encourage them to seek a career in tech.

Although the tech industry is a hub of innovation, it lags behind in terms of diversity within its workforce. Only 23% of those working in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) are women. But studies show that a more diverse workforce flourishes and encourages innovation.

A hackathon is an event in which participants team up to solve challenging problems with limited time. In our case, the task will be to analyse a data set on Covid-19. This is an exciting opportunity to improve your analytics capabilities and presentation skills, as well as speak to women working in the tech industry – all while learning more about the global pandemic through data.

You do not need to be undertaking a STEM degree to get involved. Anyone with an interest in data analysis and with some experience of working to shape, analyse and display data is welcome. All you need is internet access, a computer to use your chosen data analysis and visualisation software on and access to PowerPoint or Google Slides.

TrueCue are also looking for data analytics practitioners with plenty of experience in data preparation and manipulation tools, visualisation tools and optional experience in advance analytics to volunteer as a mentor and facilitator for a group with 3-5 participants. This would be an amazing opportunity to support and directly contribute to helping women in the early stages of their career.

The deadline to apply is Tuesday 6th October and the hackathon kicks off on Tuesday 13th October.
