On Sunday 11th December four of our Into School girls took part in the first Creative Clay workshop at Gasworks, led by Collective Matter. Their Tate Exchange project involves creating buildings and objects out of clay, with the intention of developing a cityscape. The project is inclusive for many members of the community and is an opportunity to share stories and engage in conversation around our city and community. Thinking through making is a great way of engaging young people in conversation around issues that may affect them. The girls had a great time playing with the clay and writing little stories about themselves and their journeys on tags to put on the wall. We finished off the day with some food at a Columbian restaurant that two of the girls knew- a lovely way for them to share part of their culture!
They are looking forward to participating more in this project in January, with two full days of collaborative making and walking trails around parts of London. This is a great way to engage with the city and contemplate the environment around us!
