My name is Ellie, and I’ve been a Communications and Fundraising Intern at Baytree since October 2025. Over the past seven months, my experience at Baytree has been so much more than just an internship. It’sbeen a chance to grow my skills, build my confidence creatively and be part of something that has a real impact on people’s lives. I have always been drawn to creative work and visual storytelling and I knew that I wanted to work in communications, so an internship at Baytree felt like the perfect opportunity for me.
One of the best parts of being a Communications Intern at Baytree is the variety. No two days are ever the same, which is what makes the role so exciting. Some days I’m planning and scheduling social media content, thinking carefully about how to capture the energy of our different programmes or workshops in a single post. Other days, I’m writing a blog post, designing simple graphics or brainstorming ideas for upcoming campaigns, especially around key moments like celebrations and awareness days.
A big part of my role is being hands-on and creative, I regularly am photographing classes or workshops around the centre, filming and editing short form video content for reels or stories and capturing candid, in-the-moment interactions that really show the sense of community at Baytree. These are often my favourite days as I get to see Baytree’s impact in real time and translate those moments into content that our community can genuinely connect with online.
I also write blog posts, helping to tell the stories behind the programmes and highlight the impact of the work being done. I also help to support fundraising efforts by creating content that helps promote campaigns and engages supporters, which has given me a good understanding of how communications and fundraising work together.
One thing that has really stood out to me about my time at Baytree is how much I’ve learned. I’ve developed a wide range of skills in content creation, from social media strategy to writing long form content pieces like blogs, but also important transferable skills like time management, adaptability and thinking creatively under pressure. Baytree is such a supportive environment, and I’ve felt comfortable trying new ideas in pushing myself out of my comfort zone. This trust has made a huge difference in my confidence in my work.
Being a Communications Intern at Baytree isn’t just about gaining experience, it’s about
contributing to something bigger and being part of a wider mission. Every post, photo, video and blog plays a part in amplifying voices, sharing opportunities and highlighting the importance of community support. It’s made me realise just how powerful communications can be when it’s used with purpose. What might seem like a simple social media post can actually carry real meaning, raise awareness and help people feel connected to something larger than themselves.
