Young Volunteering

We offer exciting volunteering opportunities for girls in Years 10 and above. Young Volunteers give their time to support girls of primary school age, in afterschool clubs at Baytree (4:00 – 5:00 pm or 5:00 – 6:00 pm) and are asked to commit to one hour a week, for 6-10 weeks. Clubs include one-to-one reading, art, maths, literacy, science and coding. Girls and young women are prepared and trained for their volunteering role and supported throughout their journey.

Conversation Club Leader  

Are you passionate about languages and making a difference? Join our team as a Conversation Club Leader and help non-native English speakers who attend our ESOL classes to enhance their language skills! 

What You’ll Do: 

  • Lead engaging discussions to provide a comfortable space for English practice.

Well-being Workshop Facilitator 

Ready to make a positive impact on well-being and share your expertise? Join our team as a Well-being Workshop Facilitator and lead engaging sessions on various themes that promote a healthier and happier life. 

What You’ll Do: 

  • Lead inspiring workshops on diverse well-being topics like mindfulness, creative arts, physical activity, and more (please see below workshop themes).

Looking to contribute to well-being initiatives? Join us as a Well-being Workshop Support Volunteer and play a crucial role in creating a positive workshop experience for all participants. 

What You’ll Do: 

  • Assist with workshop logistics, such as taking attendance and registering participants. 
  • Help procure and set up refreshments to ensure a welcoming atmosphere. 
  • Provide support during workshop delivery, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable session for all.

  • Join us on Wednesdays, every fortnight, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM,

Life in the UK Course Facilitator 

Ready to guide and empower women on their British citizenship journey? Join us as a Course Facilitator and make a meaningful impact on their preparation for the Life in the UK test. 

What You’ll Do: 

  • Lead engaging a group workshop to assist women in preparing for the Life in the UK test (approximately 5 students)  
  • Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment to boost confidence. 
  • Equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed. 

Time Commitment: 

  • Commit to one hour per week during term time, with flexible timing options between 9:30 AM and 2:30 PM any day Monday to Thursday.

1-2-1 Befrienders 

Ready to make a positive impact while connecting with others? Join us as a 1-2-1 Befriender and help ESOL students improve their English skills and knowledge of life in the UK. 

What You’ll Do: 

  • Provide personalised support to ESOL students through one-on-one interactions. 
  • Foster English conversation skills and share insights about life in the UK. 
  • Create a friendly and welcoming environment that encourages social inclusion. 

Time Commitment: 

  • Dedicate one hour per week, with timing arranged to suit both you and the student, from Monday to Thursday between 9 AM and 6 PM.  
  • Minimum commitment: 1 term

In this rewarding and mutually beneficial opportunity, you will provide one to one support to women to increase their sense of social inclusion and reduce isolation. Most of the women requiring this support are already attending ESOL classes at Baytree. Therefore, the focus of these sessions will be befriending, English conversation practice and providing basic information and support to access services.

Digital Skills Workshop Support Volunteer 

Ready to ignite digital confidence in our ESOL students? Become a Digital Skills Workshop Support Volunteer (6-8 week course) and contribute to the delivery of our digital skills courses. 

What You’ll Do: 

  • Provide valuable assistance during the delivery of engaging digital skills workshops. 
  • Support learners in navigating the digital landscape with confidence. 
  • Play a role in improving participants’ digital literacy and understanding. 

Time Commitment: 

  • Join us for weekly sessions every Thursday, from 9:45 AM to 11:45 AM, starting October 5th.

Skills Booster Facilitator

Ready to empower women on their journey to skill enhancement through online courses? Join us as a Skills Booster Facilitator and be a key part of our Skills Café team.

What You’ll Do:

– Lead or assist in the delivery of our engaging skills café sessions.

– Help women discover suitable online courses that align with their goals.

– Provide guidance on accessing and navigating online course platforms.

– Support and motivate participants to complete their chosen courses successfully.

Time Commitment:

– Be a part of our team every Tuesday from 12:45 pm to 3:15 pm.

Women’s Service Support Volunteer

Do you want to make a difference in the lives of women seeking social mobility? Join our team as a Women’s Service Support Volunteer and assist the Social Mobility Coaching team in a variety of activities. Your contributions will help us deliver impactful workshops, monitor progress, engage with clients, manage inquiries, and handle office administrative tasks.

What You’ll Do:

– Collaborate with our team to prepare and deliver workshops.

– Assist in monitoring and evaluating programme outcomes.

– Conduct calls with clients to provide support and guidance.

– Manage incoming inquiries and assist with office administrative tasks.

Time Commitment:

– Dedicate half a day or a full day per week for a minimum of one academic term.

Youth Mentors  Academic Focus   

Time Commitment:One session per week for an hour over the academic year, sessions start between 4 pm– 6.00 pm on weekdays, Monday – Thursday, remote or in person, term time only.  

 We are recruiting academic mentors to join our dynamic Youth Mentoring programme to provide one-to-one academic support to girls aged 10 -18 who may fall behind in their schoolwork. We are looking for volunteers with good GSCE or degree level education to support a wide range of subjects, mainly Maths, English and Science.   

Excellent interpersonal skills, patience and enthusiasm toward learning are qualities welcomed for this rewarding opportunity. Full training and ongoing support will be provided. Volunteers will act as role models, supporting academic progress and providing inspiration and encouragement to young people at risk of becoming vulnerable to further disadvantage as the attainment gaps widen. Whilst the focus is supporting academic progress, personal development, goal setting and confidence building will also be necessary. Cookery Club Lead Volunteer & Cookery Club Support Volunteer 

Time Commitment: One class per week during term time only for up to one academic year or a minimum of 2 terms (6 months)  

Mondays 4.:30pm – 6 pm term time only  

Tuesdays 4 pm – 5:30 pm term time only  

Wednesday 4 pm – 5:30 pm term time only  

We are seeking volunteers to help run our famous and oversubscribed cookery club!  We have volunteer opportunities for our Monday and Tuesday afternoon sessions. Teaching children to cook from a young age is a great way to learn essential life skills whilst having fun.  This club aims to inspire and build confidence in cooking for girls aged 6 -11, helping them understand the importance of healthy eating and nutrition.   If you are a real foodie and love cooking, and would love to volunteer with young people in this way, please apply!    

Science Club Support Volunteer  

Time Commitment: One class per week during term time only for one academic year or at least two terms (6 months). Tuesdays 4 pm-5 pm  

Supporting the science lead volunteer, you will assist in the smooth running of the science club, helping the girls with their tasks and projects during the session. You will devise fun and interactive science sessions with the lead volunteer and motivate the girls to participate.  Experience in youth or educational settings and good communication skills, creativity and a flexible approach, are welcome for this role.  

Arts Skills Support Volunteer  

Time Commitment: One class per week during term time only for up to one academic year or a minimum of 2 terms (6 months)   

Tuesdays 5 pm-6 pm

These fun and popular classes are designed to encourage creative imagination and boost self-confidence.  The role will involve creating arts and crafts projects, using various materials and exploring different topics through art.  Knowledge and skills in drawing and painting are desirable, and they can support girls with a range of different skill levels and needs. Good communication skills and the ability to motivate and inspire are welcomed.  

Reading Volunteers   

Time Commitment: One session per week during term time only for up to one academic year or a minimum of 2 terms (6 months)   

Tuesdays 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm 

Reading volunteers at Baytree motivate children to develop a lifelong joy for reading.  Children benefit from this dedicated time with an adult, boosting their self-esteem and confidence as well as their overall progress at school and skills for life.  Supporting girls aged 6-8, you may read with a small group or be assigned to one girl to provide one-to-one support.  If you love reading and would enjoy instilling this life-enriching activity in others and have patience, this role is for you!   

Book Club Support Volunteer 

Time Commitment: One session per week during term time only for up to one academic year or a minimum of 2 terms (6 months)   

Wednesday 4 pm – 5 pm 

We are looking for a volunteer to inspire and engage young readers aged 8-10 to discuss and share the books they read together over the term.  This club is about bringing books alive by facilitating discussions, sharing the enjoyment of reading in a group, and sharing opinions.  Each session will vary but has a simple format of sharing what the girls have read, doing book-related creative activities and choosing new books. This role is great for anyone who enjoys working with children and can commit to once-weekly sessions.

Coding Club Volunteers,  Thursdays from 5pm to 6pm

Time Commitment: One class per week during term time only for up to one academic year or a minimum of 2 terms (6 months)  

This club introduces Computer Science and Technology to girls aged 8 -11 in a fun and interactive way.  In your role as a volunteer, you will support girls in completing projects and developing their problem-solving skills to enable them to confidently engage with technology. We Scratch card coding to build and create games. Experience in Coding is not essential, if you love problem solving, have an eye for attention to detail and great communication skills and would love to pass some of these skills please apply
